BlackwoodOne of Scotland’s leading providers for housing and care has continued its winning streak for innovation by providing its residents with a unique form of therapy.

Blackwood’s Maclehose court development, in Greenock, recently introduced 10 chicks to the home as part of a two week project set up by educational company, Living Eggs.

Living Eggs “Ready Hatch” scheme is a two week comprehensive programme providing the tools for hatching chicks in schools, nurseries and care homes.

David Robertson, resident at Blackwood’s Maclehose court, suffers from visual impairments and has thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the project.

He said “I’ve really enjoyed having the chicks in the home and even more so, I’ve enjoyed learning about them.

For me living with visual impairments, it’s nice to be able to feel textures and to actively take part in new projects like this.”

Mary Chisholm, Service Manager at Maclehose Court, believes the project is a great demonstration of Blackwood’s innovation within the care sector.

She said “The project has been a fantastic experience for everyone involved and has gone down a storm with all the residents.

We’ve watched the chicks hatch and grow and develop over the course of two weeks and our residents have been mesmerised by the whole process.

At Blackwood we like to create new ways to provide our residents with innovative levels of care and we believe this project has been another extension of this ethos.”
