The much-maligned vegetable is a festive staple, yet regularly tops polls as one of the nation’s least favourite greens.
So organisers of a popular Scottish Winter Festival have dreamt up the ideal way to reinvent the humble Brussels sprout by coating them in rich CHOCOLATE.
The City of Perth Winter Festival will see a host of seasonal events taking place in the heart of Scotland, including the two-day Perth Festival of Chocolate this weekend (Nov 21,22).
That inspired organisers to prove that virtually anything can be improved with a sweet and creamy cocoa coating, even the nation’s most divisive Christmas vegetable
They have teamed up with Decadently Pure, to deliver the unlikely combo – with each cooked Brussels sprout carefully dipped in melted dark chocolate and then left to harden.
The result is a delicious, melt-in-the-mouth chocolate shell which should win over even the most hardened sprout hater. Ros Milligan from Decadently Pure admitted she was initially nonplussed with the request to create the unlikely blend of sweet and savoury.
She added: “I was quite surprised when I was approached with the idea but I must say they have been a lot of fun to create.
“They bring both the goodness to ensure the kids are getting their greens as well as providing a little something extra for those with a sweet tooth.
“The exclusive creation will be available to try at the Decadently Pure stall at The Chocolate Festival on Saturday 21st November.”
Adeline Watson, organiser of various markets at the City of Perth Winter Festival, said: “We’ve really taken the Chocolate Festival to the next level this year and this highly unusual creation is really highlighting that. I’m sure I won’t be the only person at the festival who is keen to find out how they taste.
“The Perth Festival of Chocolate is a great event and I would encourage everyone to come along. It’s going to be a fantastic weekend – and I can assure visitors they will get to taste some of the best and most unusual chocolate you have ever come across.”
Following the success of last year’s event, the Perth Festival of Chocolate is expected to be a huge attraction on Perth’s King Edward Street on Saturday from 9am-8pm and Sunday from 10am-5pm.
As well as chocolate sprouts, other attractions will include special Martini Cocktails and chocolate infused red wine. Iain Burnett, the renowned ‘Highland Chocolatier’, offer Saturday visitors the chance to taste the world’s best dark chocolate truffle.
Decadently Pure specialises in raw chocolate creations. Each small batch is lovingly handmade in Scotland from the finest Peruvian Criollo Cacao. From Vanilla Dark to Orange Zinger they produce mouth-watering masterpieces.
