Parlour to Preview at the Royal Highland Show with a Sweet Unveiling

Mackie’s of Scotland Press releases

Food and Drink PR set to help Mackie's unveil tasty chocolate treats at The Royal Highland Show

A BRAND NEW venture from one of Scotland’s best loved food brands is to preview at this year’s Royal Highland Show – with the first taste of an exciting new product line.

Returning for the 177th Show, Mackie’s of Scotland will be offering visitors to the famous event a sneak peek of their plans for Mackie’s 19.2, the Aberdeenshire firm’s flagship ice cream parlour launching later this year in Aberdeen’s Marischal Square.

Although the parlour is not due to officially open until September, ice cream fans will get a chance to experience a flavour of it months in advance – with ice cream treats like Crunchy Red Fruits, Toffee Popcorn and a return of the popular gin and tonic sorbet at the event that starts on 22 June.

Kirstin Mackie, Development Director at Mackie’s of Scotland, said: “We can’t wait to showcase some of the excitement of 19.2 at this year’s RHS.

“This is an event we look forward to every year and it’s a great opportunity for us to test out some of the tasty treats that will be served at the parlour.

Mackie’s launched a new range of chocolate bars in 2015 and are to reveal a further diversification in chocolate -a brand new and exclusive line of hand made gift-style chocolates.

Working with Swiss & French consultants, Mackie’s has created a range of luxury chocolates, made with Mackie’s milk and dark chocolate and filled with fresh cream ganache in an array of exciting flavours including garden mint, raspberry, mandarin, whisky and gin.

These new treats will be on offer as a show special – a gift box with 18 types of hand made chocolate – all possible flavours for the final new chocolate range.

Kirstin added: “We’re determined to never stand still and our new luxury individual chocolates are evidence of this!

“We hope we can provide a treat – and generate a buzz for the parlour by revealing some of our exciting new chocolates. It is a great chance to test them on the public and receive first hand feedback. This is just our first round of development and we are looking forward to refining the flavours and finding out what else we should try to make”

“We want to get them spot-on for the opening of the parlour, which is why we have been working with two experienced European artisan chocolatiers and now we are ready to test them on as many willing volunteers as we can – to ensure that the final range will be worth a special trip to Aberdeen!.”

Mackie’s return to the RHS follows last year’s ice-cream extravaganza, where the Aberdeenshire firm celebrated its 30 years of ice-cream making with a stall filled with 30 different ice-cream flavours.

This year’s freezer will be still be home to Mackie’s original range of favourite ice creams like Traditional and Honeycomb, in addition to the new hand-made range of ice creams for the parlour.

They will also be serving up two brand new flavours of popcorn, sweet & toffee coated, as well as four recent additions to their ridge cut crisp range – Lightly Salted, Cheddar & Onion, Sea Salt & Cider Vinegar and Sweet Chilli.

The Royal Highland Show, now in its 177th year, opens on the 22nd of June and is packed with activities and entertainment, from sheep shearing competitions to live cookery demonstrations.

In October 2016 Mackie’s announced the plans for its first flagship ice-cream parlour, set to open in the heart of Aberdeen city centre’s Marischal Square development.

More recently it was revealed that the parlour would be named Mackie’s 19.2 – as it sits exactly 19.2 miles from the Westertown home farm where the family first started making ice cream.

The 40 cover venture will provide customers with an exciting choice of more than 20 new flavours of ice cream, ice cream lollies, crepes and waffles as well as a growing range of chocolate now produced in the £600,000 chocolate factory at the family’s Westertown Farm near Inverurie.

The firm’s ambition is for the combination of its produce from the farm, paired with artisan coffee and fresh local foods will eventually become a familiar fixture in many of Scotland’s towns and cities.
