NO LIGHT ON THE NIGHT FOR U.S. TV (Adrian)

The Royal wedding is looming ever closer like some horrible, unstoppable juggernaught and the papers are filled every day with stories and tittle tattle about the happy couple. And with just over a week to go to the big day, we can expect a lot more to come – as every minute detail of the event is played out in excruciating detail.  So far, the best story about the wedding has to be this one, though. Buckingham Palace is stirring up the ire of U.S. news networks because it won’t keep its outside lights on after midnight – the exact moment when prime time audiences will be watching in the States. You can just imagine the CNN and FOX bigwigs moaning about the Queen’s selfishness for not giving them the perfect backdrop for their cheesy reports from London, can’t you?  Good for her.

MUSIC AND DANCE GUIDE  (Andrea)

How would you get men to read an interesting column about an actress in Glee, then listen to a selection of songs that are apparently hot to trot? How about combining the two into a video where the pretty, blond actress dances to the songs you’re recommending? Perfect! This video will bring men from the four corners of the earth to the Esquire website, with it’s pretty cool soundtrack as well as the Beyonce-esque “Single Ladies” vibe.

HYSTERICAL BUBBLES (Scott)

If you want to see a trending Google video before all your friends, then check out this. Yes, it’s typical of the total fluff which goes viral and racks up millions of hits on the video sharing site. But I defy you not to laugh with the giggling baby, while the bemused dog wags its tail AND looks baffled. Magic. Currently just short of 164,000 views – how long ’til it breaks the million?

REAL MADRID’S CATAS-TROPHY (Pamela)

After defeating nemesis team Barcelona and winning the Copa del Rey, Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos accidentally dropped the winners’ trophy off the team bus which was then crushed under the wheels.  The celebrations which took place in Madrid, were momentarily ruined when the man of the moment screamed “the cup fell”, followed quickly by “but the cup is ok” after Spanish Police scrambled and rescued the chalice from the vehicle’s chassis.

SHORT AND TWEET FOR LOVERS (Laura)

A survey carried out by online dating website OkCupid has revealed that twitter user’s relationships, do not last as long as non twitter user’s relationships, suggesting that the preference to keep thing short and sweet in other areas of life as well – including relationships. According to the research the average relationship length of twitter users aged 18 lasts around nine months whereas the relationships of non twitter users of the same age last nine and half months. Its bad news for those older tweeters as the disparity only worsens with age. Average relationship lengths shorten by 2 months for those users over the age of 50. The differences don’t suggest a trend we should be worried about but they do raise a curious question about how our communication behaviour and now our attention spans are affected by social networking. Let’s just hope that the short but sweet trend doesn’t spread to the bedroom!
