Open House at Edinburgh Care Homes

Bupa Care Services Press releases

Bupa’s Braid Hills Care Home and Victoria Manor Care Home are opening their doors on Friday 20 June to hold Commonwealth Games-themed summer parties to celebrate National Care Home Open Day.

The homes in Edinburgh are joining thousands of other homes across the country to celebrate the day which aims to encourage local people and community groups to visit their local care home, join in their activities and help residents, family members and staff celebrate the day.

It also gives local communities a chance to see how thousands of caring people are working hard every day to provide a safe and happy home.

As part of the second National Care Home Open Day, Braid Hills Care Home will be serving up burgers, hot dogs, popcorn and other entertainment.

Victoria Manor Care Home will also be joining in with the fun by organising its own Commonwealth Games which have been specially adapted to allow all the residents to participate.

Kirsty Dace, Bupa’s Director in Scotland, said:

We want as many people as possible to come along to our summer party on Friday 20 June and join in our fun-filled activities.

We are proud of the care we provide for our residents and we would love for people to join us and see what living and working in a care home is really like.”

Bupa’s Braid Hills Care Home and Victoria Manor Care Home will also be taking part in a global ‘Mexican Wave’, signalling the growing worldwide interest in care home open day movement. Beginning in Australia, residents in care homes around the world will consecutively join a Mexican Wave which will travel up the UK.

Last year more than 3,000 homes nationwide took part in National Care Home Open Day. It is supported by a range of organisations including the National Association for Providers for Older People (NAPA), the Department of Health and Alzheimer’s Society.
