Oh Yes They Did! – Glasgow Care Home Brings Panto To Front Room

panto 5A Glasgow care home brought panto to its own front room this year by setting up an exclusive performance of ‘A-Lad-In’ for residents who weren’t keen on facing the cold.

The two hour performance by a local professional entertainment company marked the first time Bupa’s Eastbank care home in Shettleston had brought the show in-house, giving residents, family and friends a front row experience in the comfort of their own armchair.

The communal living room area at the care home was transformed into a mini theatre, where accomplished actors Sian Ross and Stephen Vincent of Rovin productions performed a unique re-telling of the popular story ‘Aladdin’.

Greta Robertson, a resident at the Eastbank care home, said: “We usually attend a Christmas panto, but this year it was much more convenient to watch from the comfort and warmth of the lounge.

“There is always a good atmosphere in the home, and the panto is one event in particular that everyone looks forward to at Christmas time, so I’m sure it was even more enjoyable close up this year.”

A-Lad-In was on show at the home on December 8th with a series of other Christmas treats planned for residents in December.

For those who enjoy an outing for Christmas, tenants and staff will be making their way to Orion Way, a local pub-restaurant, to revel-in a traditional lunch on 14 Dec. Christmas parties will be held at the home on the 17 and 18 Dec, and will include live music from Stevie-B and a raffle.

Elizabeth Monaghan, Activity Coordinator at Eastbank care home, said: “Whether our residents are lucky enough to have family to spend Christmas with or not, they all need to feel part of the festive cheer.

“That’s why these events are so important and it’s essential we do all we can to make them available to as many residents as possible. The in-house panto definitely went down a storm.”

Sian and Stephan of Rovin productions, who specialise in care sector entertainment, provide top quality singing and hilarious comedy at parties and corporate functions. They have entertained the likes of Dukes and Duchesses, Lords and Ladies, the Military and major corporations.
