Care Commission nutrition champions coverage in Nursing Older People

The Care Commission’s nutrition champions initiative has been given a prominent three-page feature in the latest issue of Nursing Older People – a specialist publication for people involved in all aspects of caring for older people.

The magazine ran an article called “Dishing Up Good Practice” focussing on the recent Care Commission initiative, which aims to help staff in Scotland’s care homes improve nutritional care for residents.

Under the Promoting Nutrition in Care Homes for Older People programme, staff at Scotland’s care homes are being provided with an educational programme to make sure older residents have sufficiently nutritional food and drinks, while reducing the risk of malnourishment among patients.

The Care Commission is Scotland’s care watchdog and was set up in 2002. It currently regulates around 950 care homes for older people in Scotland.
