The UK’s leading designer of bespoke uniforms has proved itself to be the undisputed heavy weight champion of the corporate clothing world after designing a punchy new look for staff at the Queensberry Hotel in central Bath.

Award-winning couture firm NKD Clothing was called upon to create a fresh look for employees at the popular hotel following an extensive refurbishment based on namesake, the 8th Marquess of Queensberry.

The hotel features quirky design twists in tribute to the Marquess, who is famous for endorsing the ‘Marquess of Queensberry rules’ – the code of rules used in boxing.

The company clothing firm was tasked with updating staff uniforms for Maid2Match as well, this was to complement the mix of contemporary comfort, traditional Georgian features and quintessentially British boxing mementos.

NKD Clothing Create Smart New Look

Working with the hotel’s eclectic colour scheme and keeping in mind the eccentric and luxury design mix, management, reception, housekeeping and catering staff all received stylish new uniforms.

Management and reception teams now sport chic, one button suits and stylish olive green and plum shirts with contrasting ties and scarves, whilst the hotel porters have smart suits, distinctive embroidered fleece jackets and waterproof coats for cold, wet weather.

Female housekeeping staff are bang on trend in fashionable tunic style outfits, manufactured in Scotland using the finest quality Italian fabric. Male housekeeping staff are now dressed in ‘cool plus’ performance polo shirts, made with a special moisture wicking fabric that moves sweat away from the surface of the skin.

Employees at the hotel’s opulent Olive Tree Restaurant and Old Q Bar have also been given a brand new image. Supervisors have fashionable, but durable leather aprons with striking lime green embroidery and waiting staff have bespoke fabric aprons in olive.

The look has gone down a storm with both staff and guests of the Queensberry Hotel.

Stephanie Yapp, project manager with NKD Clothing, said the team faced a fun challenge in coming up with an up-to-date look which also reflected the hotels heritage.

She said:  “The test for NKD Clothing was to create functional but stylish uniforms that reflected the Queensbury legacy but also took inspiration from the new interior.

“It was important to us to spend time visiting the hotel and to meet with the management to team to gain a thorough understanding of exactly what they were looking for.

“The result was a range of specially tailored uniforms designed to match specific job criteria whilst complementing the hotel’s new look and distinctive colour scheme.

“This was my first project with NKD Clothing since I joined at the beginning of the year, so it was doubly important to me to find out that the staff at the Queensberry Hotel enjoy wearing their uniforms so much.”

The Queensberry hotel is the brainchild of husband and wife team Laurence and Helen Beere.

The pair met when Helen owned a local cleaning company that had a contract with a hotel that Laurence managed. Together they have a combined 40 years experience in the hotel trade and pride themselves on their boutique masterpiece that they have built together.

The couple took a long time to select the perfect corporate clothing provider and admitted they were amazed by the benefits of investing in bespoke new uniforms.

Laurence Beere said:”Here at The Queensberry Hotel we pride ourselves on being that little bit different and are absolutely passionate about attention to detail.  So when it came to us choosing staff uniforms we definitely didn’t want something homogenous, straight out of a catalogue or run-of-the-mill.

“We chose NKD for a variety of reasons, but mainly because they adopt a similar approach to business as we do and we were very impressed that they took the time to come and visit us and really learn about us and our proposition.

“Their bespoke designs complement our own unique interior and service style and as a result all of the team have been really delighted with their new uniforms and are wearing them with pride.”

NKD Clothing is committed to highlighting the importance of staff dress in creating a motivated and productive workforce. They employ the best design techniques and highest quality fabrics to provide bespoke uniforms, work wear and corporate clothing.

As a result, the firm is enjoying fast growth and has recently won of new contracts out with the hospitality sector for a number of prestigious building societies and banks.

The company has also been identified by Scottish Enterprise as a potential high-growth company. Since company director Gill Eastgate led a management buyout in 2005 she has turned it into £1.3million a year business employing ten people in Edinburgh.
