ONE of Scotland’s prominent business groups has launched an app designed to help organisations of all sizes comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Businesses are still feeling their way and learning to navigate the EU directive since its implementation on 25th May 2018.

The new joint business guidance initiative ‘Constellate’, powered by Droman Solutions and the Scottish Business Resilience Centre (SBRC), is making GDPR much clearer for companies by introducing the first app in an accredited series. This first one aims to help businesses get to grips with potential scenarios surrounding Data Protection.

The accredited apps, the first of their kind in the UK, invites users to immerse themselves in gaming technology as a learning mechanism, this presents the user with a 3D virtual office, in which the user can achieve formal GDPR accreditation without written notes or attending courses, while receiving ongoing support for professional development.

Paddy Tomkins, Chairman at Droman Solutions said: “The 25th of May and subsequent implementation of GDPR was a starting line – not a finishing tape.

“Businesses of all sizes, from sole traders to large corporations, that keep and process personal data must take active and continuing steps to ensure compliance.

“We decided to develop the app to meet the needs of these businesses to provide clear, practical and expert guidance.

“There is no other comparable product containing accredited learning in relation to GDPR, which provides ongoing professional development for staff and reassurance to clients.”

The content of the game is contributed by qualified data protection experts and at only £18.99 per user per year, provides fun and engaging training for a fraction of the time and financial cost of traditional classroom learning.

Laura Irvine, Data Protection and Privacy Law Specialist at BTO Solicitors has played an integral role in the development of the brand new GDPR app.

She said: “What I find really exciting about this app is that the contents will be updated to reflect changes in the guidance surrounding GDPR, and also provide examples of good practice.

“It has been developed to provide realistic workplace scenarios, a glossary of GDPR terms and help sheets to provide deeper insight into some of the key aspects.

“The app is always accessible to the user once they have achieved competency, allowing them to refresh their knowledge at any time.

“As a business owner, manager or member of staff, we now have greater obligation to ensure that personal data is processed properly – reputationally, it is important to get this right.”

Mandy Haeburn-Little, CEO of the SBRC said: “We are very excited about this as the first in a whole new stable of low cost, but very high value products aimed at the business market.

“The GDPR app has been designed to be equally applicable to all sizes of business but with a particular consideration give to small companies who may be working remotely or on the move. This can be used anywhere.

“It has been developed by partners with a long-established record of public service to safety and security in businesses, to give organisations peace of mind knowing they are up to date with the latest developments in data protection.

The GDPR app is now available to download for iOS and Android.
