My Time As An Intern at Edinburgh PR Agency

IT’S BEEN a quick month here at Holyrood PR.

As my internship with the award winning company comes to an end, I’ve been reflecting on what I’ve learnt during my time here.

The daily struggle of getting up at 7am and 9 to 5 life truly became an easy routine; something I thought would take much longer than a month to get used to.

Everyday at the office there was new and exciting task to get on with. Up until the last day there was constant amounts of press releases and media coverage to be uploaded onto the Holyrood PR website for their current clients.

This gave me a first hand view of the amount of work and effort the team at Holyrood put in for their clients!

Uploading onto the website became an easy process as well as the phone calls. My confidence on the phone has grown over the past four weeks and with experience like this I feel much more at ease with talking to journalists and clients over the phone. This would not have been possible without the help of the team here at Holyrood.

After experiencing writing my own blog, I came up with an idea for a blog post for Eagle Couriers, a client of Holyrood PR and the team not only took my idea on board, they let me run with it.

I thought it would be a good idea to focus on the international delivery aspect of a courier business as it was coming up to the annual Asian holiday, Chinese New Year.

Once the blog was reviewed, tweaked and approved by more experienced members of staff, it went live on the Eagle Couriers website. This was a great feeling as I felt like I was part of the team, writing for clients and had really achieved something tangible.

Internship at award winning PR agency in Edinburgh

One of the many things I’ve learnt here at Holyrood PR is what Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is and how important it is to every business.

One of my tasks was to sort out spreadsheets which showed Holyrood PRs ranking on google search. This was interesting to see and it was fascinating to learn about SEO and how much it can help a business.

The most important aspect I’ve learnt during my time here is that shyness will get you nowhere in this industry!

Although it is something I still need to work on, the team here at Holyrood helped me on my way to overcoming this hurdle. Being completely out of my comfort zone, in a new city and away from home for the very first time has been difficult but something I have overcome.

I’ve learnt loads of new skills and gained some extremely valuable knowledge on the PR industry and I have the team here at Holyrood PR to thank! I’d recommend the internship to anyone.
