National Conference offers Opportunities for Perth

Two members of the Perth and Kinross Council Investment team travelled to London to take part in a national conference allowing them to showcase Perth as a top location for business.
Stuart Oliver, Investment and Marketing Officer for Invest in Perth and Fraser McGowan, Community Investment Team Leader for the council, attended the MIPIM UK event in London, a trade show for professionals to discover the most profitable investment opportunities in the UK.
MIPIM is a business oriented networking event that provides an ideal platform to connect with relevant industry sectors and the opportunity to gain insight from senior industry experts.
And, there was also a chance to network with business leaders who may be looking to open a Scottish base or expand with their next regional branch.
The trip was in line with the Invest in Perth strategy to attract new business to the city and both delegates believe they gained a great deal from the event.
Stuart Oliver said: “attendance at this event, in collaboration with our partner cities in the Scottish Cities Alliance, shows the commitment and ambition we now have in terms of encouraging new business investment in the area.
“It was a major national event attended by experts in all fields of trade and business. One of the most obvious benefits of events like this is that we are able to meet and network with lots of people at once – whether they are developers, investors or intermediaries.
“Fraser and I have gained great deal from the event in terms of strategies that have worked for other cities and we made a number of connections that could be very helpful further down the line.”
Stuart added: “During the event we arranged for two potential investors to visit Perth within the next few weeks to view some of the development opportunities we discussed with them. We would not have made these connections at this stage had we not attended the event.”
The Invest in Perth initiative seeks to promote the Perth City Region as the most desirable place in Scotland in which to live, work, invest and visit with a particular focus on attracting new businesses and investment into the area.
