Press releases, Canva, SEO and more – reflecting on my final week at an Edinburgh PR agency

IT doesn’t feel that long ago that I was writing my first week blog post – time really does fly when you’re working at an award-winning PR agency.

It really is true that you won’t be making the tea at this graduate placement…

From day one, the team pushed me out of my comfort zone and challenged me with tasks that I didn’t think I was capable of.

I was surprised to be given this level of trust and responsibility from the start, as well as being able to get hands on with projects for a variety of clients.

No two days were the same as I was given briefs for different tasks such as project research, media lists, success posts, press releases, social media captions and more.

Of all the tasks, I particularly enjoyed working on improving my media writing skills while receiving valuable feedback from the team. As I come to the end of my internship, I can honestly say that my writing has come on loads.

Signing up for doing my PR degree at Robert Gordon University, I knew that building a career in public relations is what I wanted to do.

However, while what you are taught at university can be incredibly valuable, it doesn’t compare to the day to day of a fast-paced PR agency.

The highlights of my time at Holyrood PR included writing a blog post for Mackie’s, attending team brainstorms where I was able to input my own creative ideas and filming a cocktail video for social media.

I was made to feel like a part of the team every step of the way and the team have been so friendly and helpful throughout.

When I think about my first week compared to now, I am proud of the progress I have made in the space of four weeks.

The graduate placement has pushed me forward on my own personal career journey and has helped identify my strengths and what I need to work on for the future.

I encourage anyone who is thinking about applying for a graduate placement at Holyrood PR to do so – you definitely won’t regret it.

Huge thank you to the team at Holyrood PR for all their support!
