My glam Meter Maids will give £1000 free cash to parking drivers

Lettings boss promises cash bonanza – and calls in Edinburgh PR agency to help

Paul DickensA bevy of glamorous meter maids will be handing out free cash to motorists – so they can park in St Andrews on one of the busiest Christmas shopping dates in the calendar.

The maids, from a local modelling agency, will brighten the day for Friday afternoon shoppers, by handing out change for parking meters.

The idea is the brainchild of local businessman Paul Dickens, owner of lettings agency Alba St Andrews.

He said: “There’s nothing worse than finding a parking spot, then realising you don’t have any change, so our meter maids will be a welcome sight to anyone caught out.

“But even motorists who do have change won’t need to fish around in their purses or pockets, as we’ll be happy to meet the cost of their meter charges.

“This is my chance to give something back to the people of St Andrews, thanking them for the warm welcome we have received since relocating to the town from Edinburgh. I also hope that people like the fact they can save some extra money at this time of year – perhaps they could even donate to charity?

“From our base in Market Street, we have established great relationships with our landlords and tenants, and share their pain at the spiralling cost of parking here in the town centre.

“Parking charges are one of those things we all hate shelling out money on, so we hope that our meter maids will brighten the day for the hundreds of motorists in St Andrews.”

Mr Dickens, who lives in St Andrews, says the meter maids will be easy to spot, as they will be wearing jackets emblazoned with the Alba St Andrews name and festive Santa hats.

He expects them to hand out up to £1000 in coins while on duty along Market Street and South Street between noon-2pm on Friday, December 12. An hour’s parking in St Andrews costs £1.

He was inspired after witnessing a similar scheme in the Australian resort of Surfers Paradise and added: “It might be a bit chillier, but it’s nice to introduce it to our very own surfing hotspot right here in St Andrews

“In the past I’ve organised similar events in Edinburgh, alternating between kilted hunks and lovely ladies – the service was always hugely appreciated, with the beaming smiles of car owners telling their own story.”

Alba St. Andrews has a solid foundation within the property industry and has been established in St Andrews for a number of years.

The company has gone from strength to strength with a portfolio of more than 150 properties, with a real estate value in excess of £50 million.
