My first non-stop week at Holyrood PR

Holyrood PR BlogIntern Programme

A pandemic won’t stop this team and I’m here to witness their resilience.

By Kitti Laczko

THE majority of my first week as an intern was spent from the comfort of my home, but that didn’t stop me from getting fully involved with everything happening at this busy PR agency.

With the easing of lock down restrictions in Scotland, I was excited to have the opportunity to join some of the team in their socially-distant office on Friday and experienced how much more efficient, helpful and comforting this was.

I learned how to manage time properly and multitask with the help of the team – the luxury of a comfy desk chair and big, double screens also made a huge difference! Gone were the days of crouching and fixating over my laptop and excel files.

By the time I got to meet some of the team in person on Friday, I didn’t feel like a stranger and it was thanks to their open approach, friendliness and patience, expressed through carefully drafted and detailed briefs, tutorials and some kind words of encouragement.

Every member of the team found the time to help me out when needed regardless of how busy they were – and they were busy. In fact, it’s rather surreal to be sitting here writing my first week blog when it’s felt like one of the quickest weeks of my life.

I’ve already been given so many opportunities and tasks to learn, it’s hard to believe that they were all packed into one week, however I was not short of help or guidance to get me through.

I have been monitoring and evaluating online and social media activity for Scottish Water’s new #cuppateawithme campaign, participating in daily team meetings and catch up calls, updating our media lists, creating content for social media and writing my first post for our website.

In the process, I learned a tremendous amount about numerous platforms and concepts including Photoshop, Asana, WordPress and my first introduction to search engine optimisation.

I couldn’t be more grateful to be able to do this internship and learn so much, I can only hope that while I develop my skills and enhance my understanding of the world of PR, I will be able to give something back to these guys who work so hard.
