ICONS OF Scotland’s style scene have joined forces with one of Scotland’s leading racecourses to offer the very best advice to fashion-conscious women this winter.

Musselburgh Racecourse has teamed up with top Edinburgh stylists to offer expert tips for women on staying both fashionable and warm ahead of the hotly-anticipated Totepool New Year’s Day Race Meeting.

With ticket sales for the event now up by more than 70% on last year, the fashionistas have highlighted the importance for race goers organising their outfits sooner rather than later to continue the festive party atmosphere at the January 1 event.

From this year’s hottest winter trends to getting ahead of the game with style predictions for 2017, the stylists will ensure that attendees have a stress-free experience when getting ready, so that they can focus on enjoying the day in their most chic attire at Musselburgh Racecourse.

Cathy Owen, of Cathy Owen Creative, advises guests to take full advantage of the unique opportunity to get fully dolled up to ring in the New Year in style. She said:  “If you’re heading to Musselburgh Racecourse for New Year’s Day and wanting to make a statement, it’s all about the coat, because with our Scottish weather, it’s not coming off when you’re outside!

“For your main outfit, consider luxurious fabrics such as silk, cashmere, lace and this season’s biggest trend – velvet, for a stylish look that doesn’t appear too understated under an eye-catching coat.

“And for the men looking to be top of the racing style stakes, a classic cut overcoat, especially in camel or navy, is always a winner. Team this with a simple, beautiful cashmere scarf for a very stylish look – well worth asking for one in your Christmas stocking.”

Laura Russell, personal stylist and shopper and blogger at Satisfashion.co.uk, hosted a variety of sessions earlier this year at Edinburgh Fashion Week, two of which were dedicated to Musselburgh Racecourse’s leading fashion event, Stobo Castle Ladies Day.

Laura added: “There are a number of current winter trends which would look great for the Totepool New Year’s Day Race Meeting, such as stripes, velvet and sparkle for the daytime, not just at night – a particularly useful one for those looking for more than one use for their Christmas party outfit.

“I’d say don’t get too hung up on the latest trends though, and make sure you’re getting the ones that suit your style. Those attending should also make sure to consider their outfit as a whole. Think about the pieces people will see, be it a fabulous coat, scarf or boots.

“Layering is key to any outdoor event, especially in the colder months, so consider layered pieces. Roll necks work really well under nice dresses for a funky winter look.”

As well as being just a few miles from Edinburgh, the East Lothian course is a one of Scotland’s best known five star venues, with superb facilities. That, combined with the thrill of a high-quality race card, has turned the January event into one of the highlights of Scotland’s social and racing calendars.

Early birds are encouraged to pick up a special advanced ticket price, by booking before 1st January to get £5 off on advance admission tickets. And with ticket sales for the event up by more than 70% on last year, racecourse bosses are urging racegoers to book fast.

Aisling Johnston, Marketing Manager at Musselburgh Racecourse, said: “We are thrilled to have teamed up with Cathy and Laura to provide expert style tips for those attending the Tootpool New Year’s Day Race Meeting.

“For those wanting to continue the party, the New Year’s Day fixture is the place to be. It’s always a fantastic way to usher in the New Year and this promises to be the best yet. We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone on the day and starting 2017 with a bang.”
