Drinks firm sign headline deal for renowned race day

FAST-growing drink brand Edinburgh Gin has agreed a £10,000 deal to claim the headline sponsor slot at one of Musselburgh Racecourse’s most prestigious annual events.

The support follows on from the success of last year’s Edinburgh Cup meeting – which saw racegoers enjoy more than 14,000 measures of gin.

Already established as one of the biggest dates in the Scottish racing calendar, the Edinburgh Cup is also a social highlight, attracting thousands of racegoers to the venue, a five star attraction just a few miles from Edinburgh.

Sarah Montgomery, Senior Operations and Commercial Manager at Musselburgh Racecourse, said: “We consider ourselves Edinburgh’s racecourse, so we are thrilled to be partnering with one of the city’s best-known drink brands for one of our biggest and busiest race days in our landmark 200th anniversary year.

“Edinburgh is the gin capital of the UK and Edinburgh Gin is a flagbearer for this thriving Scottish sector, but it is also premium brand which our racegoers love.

“On top of that, the Edinburgh Cup promises top class racing, perfectly complementing Edinburgh Gin’s reputation for quality. Whatever way you look at this, it is a fantastic partnership all round – not least for our racegoers who between them polished off more than 500 bottles in total during last year’s Edinburgh Cup.”

Alex Nicol, Founder of Edinburgh Gin said of the partnership: “Myself and the team at Edinburgh Gin are delighted to be sponsoring this year’s Edinburgh Cup at Musselburgh on Saturday 4th June.

“This long-established race day is known as a highlight of the annual sporting and social calendar in Scotland. On the day, we’ll be quenching the thirsts of race-goers with our unique gins and liqueurs; rain or shine.

“We had the pleasure of being named Scotland’s fastest growing gin brand last year, hopefully we might bring a little speed to our favourite horse on the day too!”

The official sponsorship deal will see Edinburgh Gin take over the Edinburgh Cup Club offering an extensive menu of gin-based drinks – from classic G&Ts to creative cocktails.

Musselburgh Racecourse is proud of how the Edinburgh Cup brings colour to the capital, attracting leading horses, trainers and jockeys from across the UK and offering a programme packed full of quality racing with a total prize fund of £145,000.

The entertainment continues after the last race with its ever-popular after party that provides an exclusive DJ set as well as fantastic live music for racegoers looking to extend the celebrations.

Musselburgh Racecourse is firmly established as one of the UK’s most stylish racecourses, hosting 28 flat and jumps meetings each year. Already popular with racing enthusiasts, it is increasingly becoming a draw for both families and corporate clients.

As part of the year-long celebration of the historic racecourse’s 200th anniversary, there will also be a special Bi-Centenary Celebration Raceday on Friday, July 8th.
