WE ALL need something to look forward to, right?Total Warrior Edinburgh © 2015 TOTAL WARRIOR.

Something to motivate us and make the day-to-day grind seem worthwhile.

Whether it’s a weekend glass of wine, a city break with friends or family or the magic date in the diary when you’ll finally have the down payment for a new house or car, usually our careful planning involves treats or rewards.

But the team here at our public relations agency, Holyrood PR in Edinburgh have decided to do things a little differently.

For the next four months we’ll certainly have a series of dates in our diary. And there’s not much doubt what’s going to be front of mind for us every night when we go to bed and every morning when we wake up again.

Mud. Sweat. Fears.

Hang on. That can’t be right, can it? Well … yes, it is. Y’see, we’ve only gone and signed up for the Total Warrior challenge, billed as one of the toughest and most gruelling obstacle courses out there.

The bbq Obstacle © 2015 TOTAL WARRIOR.MUD – Our six strong team will face a 12km run through the East Lothian countryside along a course where the water logged track is deliberately churned up to create a sinew-straining mud that would slow down even the finest endurance athletes.

SWEAT – Before we even get there we face four months of punishing preparation work under the watchful eye of a personal trainer whose idea of fun is lung-bursting workouts in the great outdoors, irrespective of the weather conditions

FEARS – Each of the participants will have to face down and conquer some of the most common yet deeply held fears as they take on THIRTY separate obstacles – from leaping over fire, crawling through confined tunnels or being submerged in a dark and icy water tank.

Yes, there are plenty of injuries during Total Warrior events – but the organisers assure us that no-one has ever died. At this point you might be asking, what is there to actually look forward to?

First and foremost our intrepid team be raising cash for a worthwhile charity, The SSC. Who’d fail to crack a smile at the thought of all those deserving 11-18 year olds getting an important – and often life changing – taste of camp in the beautiful Scottish countryside?

Forget broken New Year resolutions, fad diets and unused gym memberships – our team will be working out as part of a team with a purpose.

And third we’re thinking of you, dear reader. Because over the coming months we’ll be keeping a diary – in words, pics and video –  of our training and eventual participation. Allowing you to snigger and count yourself lucky as we get worked to exhaustion, covered in muck and soaked to the skin. The first Total Warrior event to take place in Scotland will be held in the picturesque town of North Berwick on September 13.

Obstacle, endurance and mud racing events are one of the fastest growing past times in Britain – and Total Warrior is billed as the ultimate test of stamina, Scottish PR agency taking part in total warrior to raise money for children's charitystrength and determination. The organisers pride themselves on offering a greater variety and greater number of obstacles per kilometre – or as they refer to it pain-for-your-pound – than any other race out there.

The Holyrood PR team will be made up of company co-founders Scott Douglas, as well as account executive Chris Fairbairn, videographer Craig Sinclair and writer Xantha Leatham.

Director Scott said: “I am extremely proud of the team for stepping up and getting involved in an event as physically testing as this.

“It is an exciting and fun way for us to make money for a charity we strongly support, but we are still taking it very seriously.

“I think it will really help make the team even closer as in order to complete the course we will all have to work together. It will be a great day and we are all really looking forward to it, the question is whether or not everyone will actually complete the course.”

At Holyrood PR we believe that stories are at the heart of every business – and when they are well told to the right audiences they not only make companies more profitable, they also help build happier workplaces.

At the end of our Total Warrior adventure, we expect to have plenty of stories of our own worth telling.
