A Scottish charity determined to help children in Romania has raised a staggering £31,500 following an evening of fun and fundraising at Lulu in Edinburgh.

Helen Robertson from the Scottish 2007 Romanian Challenge Appeal has thanked the generosity of the Montpeliers Group, owners of Tigerlily and its basement club Lulu, who provided the venue free of charge for the night, and helped ensure almost 200 key Scottish business people turned up to show their support.

The cash was raised through a series of raffles and auctions, as well as donation, thanks to the compassion and generosity of the guests who enjoyed the charity night at Lulu, the fantastic subterranean basement club at the city’s Conde Nast award winning Tigerlily.

Helen Robertson and Bryan Reid formed Scottish 2007 Romanian Challenge Appeal after learning of the plight of homeless children in Romania. The pair are determined to fund new, high quality buildings to provide safe, secure homes for fifty children.

Helen said that her former colleague David Wither, managing director of Montpeliers (Edinburgh), had provided fantastic support by providing the venue and sharing business contacts.

In addition, the group provided a stay in boutique hotel Ricks as a raffle prize, and agreed to add a voluntary £1 to the door admission to Lulu and Opal Lounge on bank holiday weekend to raise extra cash.

“The team at Montpeliers have been brilliant, as indeed have all those who came along to show their support on the night. We are determined to do what we can to help these children in Romania, and the support of influential business figures like David makes a real difference.

“We also benefited from brand support from the drinks companies, and fantastic donations of auction prizes, including a weekend at Gleneagles, Take That and T in the Park tickets, and a life changing trip to Romania.”

While the charity is delighted with the results of the night at Lulu, Helen stressed they still have a long way to go to raise the full £60,000 required to provide the children’s homes in Romania. The charity has further nights planned, and anyone who requires further information should contact Helen on [email protected] or telephone 07879 606867.
