Meridian logo for web newsChildren at an Orkney nursery have received an early Christmas present from Meridian Salmon Group.

Westray Nursery were able to update and enhance it’s construction play area, after a donation of large toy blocks from the salmon farming firm, which operates a number of sites around Orkney.

The generous donation has already provided hours of fun for the children, using the bricks to build towers and houses, helping improve their learning and creativity skills, through play and interaction.

Mark Warrington, Managing Director at Meridian Salmon Group, said: “The Westray Nursery is an important part of Orkney life and many of our employees use the facilities of the nursery.

“We are dedicated to supporting the local communities in and around where we operate and would like to think this donation will help provide the building blocks for next generation of Orcadians.”

Meridian Salmon Group is one of the top five salmon farming companies in Scotland, employing 350 people particularly in small communities in Shetland, Orkney and the West Coast.

The firm operates at 61 sea sites and 19 freshwater sites across Scotland and Cumbria and is currently developing its new facility in the former Lexmark building in Rosyth, which will be the biggest processing plant in the UK.
