We caught up with our new PR assistant Marie Barr to find out more about how she’s finding her first introduction to the world of PR

1. What is your background?

I completed my final year of at Boroughmuir high school earlier this year. I chose to take a gap year to focus on starting my career in PR before I leave to study politics and international relations at the University of Aberdeen.

2. What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love cooking! However, when I’m not in the kitchen trying my latest gourmet experiment, I like learning about spirituality and exploring the Edinburgh shops while looking for crystals.

3. What is your favourite recipe to cook for a dinner at home?

Lately, I have been exploring a lot of traditional Greek recipes, so my current go-to is definitely moussaka! It’s a staple.

4. What is one hobby you’d love to get into?

Right now, I’m really motivated to learn a second language. Spanish and Arabic are the first two on my list!

5. What made you decide to go into the PR industry?

I have always seen myself pursuing a career that would make me feel fulfilled, so when I found out about PR it ticked all the boxes for me. I love the way it ties together your creativity, imagination and professional business mind-set.

6. What is your favourite thing about working at Holyrood PR?

I love working around amazing PR professionals every day. Being surrounded by so much talent and experience makes me feel inspired. I get to learn something single day and just gives me the motivation to continue pursuing this career path.

7. What is one professional skill you are currently working on?

Currently, I’m focusing on my writing skills – in public relations less is truly more, so I’m always looking for new ways to improve my composition.

8. If you could be a superhero, what would your superpower be?

I consider myself a very curious person as I always want to know what people think, so I’ll say mind reading.

9. What is your guilty pleasure?

There is nothing better than snuggling up with my cat and catching up on Keeping up with the Kardashians after a busy day.

10. What is one of your favourite memories from the past year?

I would have to say taking the first steps to starting my career in PR is definitely one of the most exciting moments for me this year. I have loved every second of it so far.
