CALA Homes (East) has donated £350 towards the initiative, which brings together men from the community every week to meet, chat over a cup of tea and learn how to repair and make things.

Chairman of Pentlands Men’s Shed Alister Skinner welcomed the donation and told of the plans to use it to build up the Shed’s own toolkit.

Speaking about the donation, Alister said: “We don’t currently have very many of our own tools for the shed. The donation is going to help us put together our own toolkit and build up any units we have that are missing things like chargers and drill parts.

“Having additional funds from CALA really does make a difference and we couldn’t be more grateful.

“Back in April when we formed the group, the aim was to create an informal but informed space for men in the area to meet every week. We have 30 members signed up and usually see between 8-10 members coming along every Friday.

“We’re working on different projects all the time with other groups in the community, like the Scouts, Ravelrig RDA and a local dementia support group. It’s up to our members to plan projects and put forward ideas from week to week.

“We’re slowly starting to get a wealth of project ideas and conversations going, but more importantly we’re creating companionships.”

Derek Lawson, Land Director at CALA Homes (East), said: “It’s been so rewarding to see how the Pentlands Men’s Shed is bringing the local community together. It’s a pleasure to support the project and continue our links with Currie.”
