Live Music To Hit The Right Note At The Golf Inn

The Golf InnA Gullane hotel is hoping to hit the right note with music lovers and local bands by launching a calendar of gig nights in a bid to put the area back on the live music map.

The Golf Inn is looking to establish itself as the only live music venue in the East Lothian village, catering for an increased demand in this type of night from locals and musicians alike.

The hotel has already taken advantage of its unique acoustic space, holding several live music nights over the past few weeks including sets from one of Scotland’s leading cover bands, The Blackbeez, and Haddington based band, The Spangles.

Such has been the success of the live music so far, most recently during The Open golf week and at the Gullane Games, that the hotel has been inundated with requests to bring the bands back.

Vocalist and rhythm guitarist with The Blackbeez and former X-Factor contestant, Mark McCluskey, said: “Currently there is no real live music offering in the area, which means bands such as ours miss out on playing in great locations such as Gullane and the locals obviously don’t get the chance to hear live music on a regular basis.

“It’s great to see that The Golf Inn is doing something to address this untapped resource and hopefully it can lead the way in bringing even more live music events to the area.

“We really enjoyed playing at the hotel during The Open week. It was one of those gigs where everything just came together in terms of our music, the venue and the crowd and it made for a fantastic evening.

“The crowd were right up for it and we were delighted to be asked back. As local guys, it was a pleasure to play so close to home and we are hoping that more people from the surrounding areas will come and see us play at The Golf Inn in future.”

The Blackbeez, who include a Gullane resident in their four-man line up, specialise in Indie and Classic rock music and regularly play at venues throughout the east of Scotland including a number of highly popular live music venues in Edinburgh. Despite only having formed in January of last year, the band has already played more than 100 gigs. The Blackbeez have also undertaken a short tour of England, travelling as far south as Shropshire – and they are planning a repeat tour at the end of August.

The Golf Inn, owned by Rob and Jules Reeley, are hoping that the excitement created by the gigs   will encourage more bands from the area and beyond to come forward and add to its live music nights.

Rob and Jules also run the Goblin Ha’ in nearby Gifford and have established a highly popular live music night in its public bar on Friday nights.

Rob said: “The live music nights at The Golf Inn have been a great success so far and the bands and crowd really added to the fantastic atmosphere of the gigs and we are delighted that so many people are asking to see more.

“There is a real lack of live music venues in Gullane and we want to change this. Our function room has been under used for some time now and we thought what better way to utilise it than with some live music.

“Hopefully over time we can continue to secure more live acts, something we feel the village may have been lacking in recent years, and establish The Golf Inn as a popular music venue.”

Previously an old coaching inn, The Golf Inn comprises 12 rooms, the Niblick bar, a modern restaurant and a large function suite, which houses the live music, which can accommodate up to 100 people seated and can also be used for weddings, parties and dances.
