Major Move Signals Growth for Scots Legal Firm

Widely regarded as a heavyweight name in the sector, Gerry Cockburn joins Boyd Legal – bringing with him more than 25 years experience heading up finance departments.

Previously Head of Finance at the Faculty of Advocates, as well as key roles at Gilson Gray and Capita-owned Optima Legal Services, Cockburn and is now taking up the position of Finance Director with the Edinburgh headquartered outfit.

Gerry said: “I’ve opted to make the permanent move to Boyd after experiencing the firm during recent consultancy work.

“I was struck immediately by the culture and feel that the timing for the switch is perfect, just as the firm is beginning to really establish itself within the Scottish legal and business landscape.

“There is an opportunity to build something special here – and I’m grateful to Peter Boyd and his team for bringing me into the such a key role.”

Having started his career with Caesar & Howie Solicitors & Estate Agents, Cockburn moved to Gold’s Solicitors before taking up the role as Head of Finance at the Faculty of Advocates – which he served for two years.

He then made the switch to Optima Legal Services, remaining as Financial Controller after its acquisition by Capita plc – where he established key contacts with the major Scottish banking groups.

Cockburn, a native of Torphichen in West Lothian, has now been tasked with heading up Boyd’s accounts team – and will be central to the firm’s business strategy going forward.

The appointment follows last year’s merger with Kirkcaldy-based Gibson & Spears, Dow & Son, and highlights Boyd Legal’s focus to drive forward its growth plans.
