Keen Cyclists Take on Scotland’s Toughest Charity Challenge

Bell Ingram Press releases

The Oban Sportive, Scotland’s ultimate charity cycling challenge, is back by popular demand after a hugely successful first event in 2013.

The endurance challenge – sponsored for the second year running by local land property agents, Bell Ingram – is again expected to draw large support from cyclists, supporters and onlookers as it runs along much of the Route 78 National Cycle Network.

The event, which takes place on Sunday 28th September, offers the option of two courses – the 52 mile Avich route and the 84 mile Kilmartin route.

Each route provides entrants with an opportunity to take on largely traffic-free winding roads, several steep climbs and many sheer descents throughout the cycle.

However, those taking on the challenge will be rewarded with breath-taking scenery through some of Scotland’s most treasured and scenic landscapes.

Hugh Nicol of Bell Ingram’s Oban office said: “We have an active policy of supporting charities and communities across our seven-strong Scottish office operation, so for us in Oban, it is a thrill to be the main sponsors again of such a successful event as the Oban Sportive.

“The Oban Sportive was a huge triumph in its first year so it’s great to see more than 150 enthusiastic cyclists taking on the challenge for the second year running.

“Events like these highlight the great community and support we have here in Oban and we can only admire those who enter the challenge and take on these tough cycle routes for charity.

“The cycle is set to take place this Sunday but there is still time for a few last minute entries if people are feeling up to the challenge.”

The Oban Rotary Club have worked alongside North Argyll Cycle Club for the second time to organise the challenge, with any money raised going towards charities supported by the local Rotary Club.

Online entries for the event are open until 8pm on Friday 26th September and can be made by visiting the Oban Sportive website http://www.obansportive.co.uk/index.htm. Entries can also be made on the day between 6.30am and 7.30am at the Atlantis Leisure complex.
