Julie Franchetti brings her creative design skills to Tigerlily
AN ACCLAIMED Scottish artist has completed an unique commission to create a range of original artwork for Edinburgh’s stylish new hotel and venue Tigerlily.
Julie Franchetti’s colourful and evocative images have each been exclusively created to reflect the design of the individually styled rooms at Tigerlily, which was named as one of Scotland’s Most Stylish Hotels in the recent Scottish Style Awards.
Julie’s 12 works – a collection of contemporary abstracts worked in acrylics and textiles– have already met with wide acclaim from guests.
Julie said: “It’s unusual for a hotel to commission a collection of original work customised to a specific space and style, and from one artist – normally they look to buy off-the-shelf works or commission solo projects. Tigerlily’s unique attention to design detail and the diversity of the suites and rooms has made this commission so challenging and stimulating for me.
“What I did was take my inspiration from each of the distinctive spaces; the design, the light, the view, the colours and the feel of each bedroom. Every painting aims to uniquely reflect and compliment the overall design experience. This includes two stunning black paintings for the luxurious and very distinct black suite.”
David Wither Managing Director of Montpeliers (Edinburgh), who operate Tigerlily, said: “We chose Julie’s work as it reflected the design and energy we were looking for. The paintings add a really personalised and unique dimension to the Tigerlily experience.”
Each of the bedrooms featuring Julie’s work carries an information postcard and the Tigerlily website – www.tigerlilyedinburgh.co.uk – has a link to Julie’s website: www.juliefranchetti.co.uk for guests to visit.
Edinburgh-born Julie came to the attention of Tigerlily after her inaugural exhibition ‘Colours’ at the Bonham Hotel in April/ May this year.
Since then Julie has won increasing acclaim and a growing number of private commissions.
Julie believes her experience of living and working in Australia and extensive travels across the globe has developed her eye for colour and mood – a creative spirit which comes across clearly in her lively canvases.
As further recognition of her work, Julie has been commissioned to produce a range of new paintings for the exclusive Quartermile development on the site of the previous Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh. Two pieces are currently on display in the marketing suite.
Tigerlily, situated at 125 George Street, is the latest addition to the portfolio of the Montpeliers group, who also operate Opal Lounge, Rick’s and Candy Bar.
Located over five-floors in a restored Grade A Listed townhouse, Tigerlily sees understated Georgian opulence blend with contemporary coolness to create a one-off venue with a undeniable wow factor. The venue features 33 individually styled bedrooms – including six sumptuous Georgian suites – two chic bars, a 200 cover restaurant and glamorous subterranean club called Lulu.
