It’s a guessing game when it comes to the cost of PR in Scotland

But there’s no mystery with the transparent pricing at our public relations agency

If YOU intend to shell out a healthy chunk of change for PR services, then it’s likely you’ll scour the interweb til your fingers ache and your eyes are red raw to get an idea of the costs involved.

Quite right too. Surely only a mug would do business with people who are  coy when it comes to explaining how much they charge and what you get for that money?

After all you’re likely to want an idea of how one company’s price compared against the competition. Also, it’s reassuring to know that you’re being charged the same fair rate as an agency’s other clients.

At least, that’s the theory – so we decided to put it to the test. We really did scour the web til our fingers ached and our eyes were red raw. But guess what? We couldn’t find another PR agency in Scotland which publishes its rates. Not one among the 60-plus we checked.

Why is that? Well, we’re afraid we can’t speak for any of those others. But we’d  advise you that, if you are considering working with a PR agency, you ask them to explain in simple and easy-to-understand terms exactly what you will be charged and what you will get for that.

Pile of moneyMaybe you should also phone some of that agency’s other clients to find out what they are being charged, to establish that the company has a clear pricing policy – and doesn’t simply fix rates according to how much they believe can be squeezed out of you.

For our part here at Holyrood PR, our public relations agency based in Edinburgh,  we are crystal clear and upfront about our pricing . And by upfront, we mean that our rates are published prominently on our website. There are a number of very good reasons for this.

First, understanding the investment required is one of the most important factors to potential clients. When you know the costs, you can make clear headed decisions and budget accordingly.

Second, clear and honest pricing allows you to be flexible – you can increase or rein in your spending according to the rhythms and demands of your market

Third, we cherish transparency, because that kind of clarity allows realistic expectations to be agreed. Both your team and ours know exactly what is expected.

Four – and most importantly – this transparency builds trust. After all, who wants to buy a product or service without a clear understanding of the cost?

While we can’t guarantee that we’re unique among Scottish PR agencies in publishing our rates so clearly online, we certainly haven’t been able to find any others who do so.
