Blog Feature For The Holyrood PR On CIPR Scotland

Press releases

CIPR Scotland committee member Scott Douglas was recently a guest speaker at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh in front of it’s postgraduate and undergraduate PR students providing some invaluable advice.

He stressed the importance of student placements to future employment and explained what will be expected of them.

Scott explained how our very own Laura Berry came to the Holyrood PR on a postgraduate placement as part of her studies at Queen Margaret University and quickly impressed, leading to a job.

Laura won the prestigious accolade of CIPR Scotland’s Young Communicator of the Year just 18 months after initially starting her placement at the Holyrood PR, which is surely a great example to the aspiring public relations professionals.

Sally Chalmers, programme leader and lecturer of the postgraduate PR course at Queen Margaret University said: “Work placements are an important aspect of student development.  Scott’s input will be invaluable in helping them to prepare for this experience.”

She added: “We want potential employers to know about the talent we have here and hope they will extend opportunities like that enjoyed by Laura Berry.  Her success shows exactly what benefits there can be for both the student and the host.

“We’re delighted Scott could speak to our students and would be keen to hear from any agency or organisation who’d be interested in providing placements for our students.”
