Tattoo Medals

Renowned Scottish jeweller Alistir Tait has spent years producing the highly-detailed, solid-silver keepsakes which are presented to key performers at the end of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo’s month-long run. But the final medals from a set minted in the year 2000 were handed over at the end of the 2006 event, with soaring price of precious metals could spell the end of the tradition. The jeweller and gemmologist, who runs Alistir Wood Tait Antique and Fine Jewellery on Rose Street, Edinburgh, said: “If these turn out to be the very last of these medals, then I am sure they will be even more cherished by those who are receiving them.”
