SYMPATHETICALLY restoring, altering and modernising a stunning A-listed property in one of Edinburgh’s most coveted streets might seem like a daunting task – but that is exactly the project Christine Mulgrew faced just 14 months ago.
As a partner in Arboretum Village Property Company Christine is used to facing up to the challenges that lie ahead when beginning a project but even she was apprehensive at the magnitude of the task when restoring a property in Edinburgh’s renowned Ann Street.
Sourcing and restoring period features, combining traditional features with a modern and contemporary look and bureaucratic council red tape are just a few of the potential pitfalls when dealing with a property of such historic importance. Add to that a complete attic conversion and digging out a basement extension and that project becomes even more fraught.
But throughout the painstaking project Christine and her business partners Mike Couch and Steve Hoy, remained focused and they are now left with a superbly modernised 19th century townhouse which retains every inch of its neoclassic character and charm.
The five-bedroomed property, halfway along Ann Street which is considered one of the best preserved streets of its period in Europe. It is being marketed by the team at Hunters-psm, who work with the property PR experts at Holyrood PR in Scotland.
