AN INNOVATIVE ‘bagpipe amnesty’ was launched by the Scottish Schools Pipes and Drums Trust asking for bagpipes to be donated to give new young players a better chance in life.
The Old Pipes for New Players appeal will help young players, who have spent two years on practice chanters, move onto the full instrumen, which can cost hundreds of pounds. The trust is giving free tuition to more than 1000 pupils in schools across Scotland – many in the most deprived areas.
