When a five-tonne steel fixture inspired by the historic streetscape of Haddington, with influence from local school children was set to be unveiled, we were ready to capture the perfect shot.
The new installation serves as an important step in a major Haddington expansion for CALA Homes (East), which will see more than 800 new homes, a new primary school, and a range of other community amenities.
Forming the Centre of the new Civic Square, a purpose built communal space at the entrance of letham mains Primary School, the fixture’s unveiling was attended by the children of Letham Mains as well as Cllr John McMillan, Haddington Councillor.
Working closely with the Primary School, as well as East Lothian Council’s arts service, the forged steelwork was shaped by local children through a ‘Postcards from Haddington’ project which encouraged the children to share their heir own interpretations of the town’s cultural heritage.
