Pensioner keeps arthritis at bay with creative bead bowls

Cramond Residence

Former war evacuee shows off colourful creations in stunning social care PR photography

A CREATIVE pensioner has refused to let crippling arthritis block her creativity and has proved a surprise hit with her colourful bead bowls.

Dorothy McDermott, 92, who lives at Edinburgh’s finest care home, Cramond Residence, uses creative projects such as bowl making to lead a fulfilling life – especially during lockdown.

Creative Dorothy has always had an artistic flair, making necklaces out of silver sixpences and wire during World War II.

When she was evacuated from her Perthshire home she would gather hazelnuts to paint and make brooches from, to keep everyone’s spirits high and bring a little bit of happiness during a difficult time.

The social care PR experts at Holyrood PR work with Cramond Residence to share its positive stories – and arranged for colourful PR photography of Dorothy’s work.

We also secured cherished images from her youth to further help explain her lifelong passion for fashion and art, ensuring multiple media outlets would pick up on her story.
