A Leeds woman is being given a reason, and a way, to celebrate after winning a luxury batch of her very own flavour of ice cream flavour and a party to boot.

Abi Larter scooped top prize after submitting her idea for her dream ice cream flavour to be produced by Mackie’s of Scotland.

She will see 10 litres of Mackie’s rhubarb and custard delivered to her home as well as everything needed to host her own party, including balloons, funds for food and even a band.

Abi said: “Rhubarb is, of course, a bit of a local specialty and the whole family are big fans of rhubarb and custard sweets, so we thought it would be nice to see that great combination make an appearance in Mackie’s ice cream.

“I always wanted my own ice cream van when I was a kid and now I’ve got an opportunity to be the ice cream lady at the party!”

Abi and her husband first acquired a taste for Mackie’s while living north of the border, in Glasgow, and haven’t been able to shake the habit since. She plans to make more than a nod to their Scottish past with the entertainment at the party.

Abi added: “We both loved living in Glasgow and couldn’t resist a bit of a reel on the odd night out so I thought it would be nice to have a traditional Scottish ceilidh band getting everyone up and dancing!

“It’ll be brilliant getting to share our flavour with all our friends and family, especially as I’m hoping to have the party for my 40th.”

Prompted to enter this contest by one of her competition mad sons they are both looking forward to getting their hands on a cone or two.

Also included in the prize are a portable Barbeque, sandpit, paddling pool and a whole host of Mackie’s chocolate and crisps for revellers to snack on.

Karin Hayhow, Marketing Director at Mackie’s said: “Rhubarb and custard is a classic combination and we really liked the local connection with Abi.

“We love a ceilidh too and think it’s a great way to burn off a few of the treats we’ll be sending over!”
