Hotel Puts the Fun into Overnight Stays

Grassmarket Dandy WallpaperAn Edinburgh hotel is offering guests a fun filled stay thanks to giant magnetic walls, Polaroid pictures and a rather unusual replacement for the traditional Bible.

The Grassmarket Hotel, in the heart of Scotland’s capital, has recently been refurbished to offer its guests the perfect hotel room which combines comfort and style with a sense of fun and relaxation – making it ideal for corporate stays as well as weekends away.

Each of the 44 rooms comes complete with a giant magnetic wall map of Edinburgh city centre, with movable labels allowing guests to plan where they want to eat, drink and party, as well as a large scale Sudoko blackboard where each morning the maths crazed domestic staff provide guests a new Sudoku challenge (with answers at reception!).

The rooms also pay homage to Scotland’s cultural heritage with a feature wall paying homage to The Dandy, which was specially created for the hotel and made out of front covers from original Dandy comics.

In-keeping with this theme and the element of fun, the hotel has also swapped the traditional Bible with a copy of the last ever edition of the Dandy comic, which stopped circulation in 2012, giving  guests the opportunity to read this little piece of history during their stay.

Rachael Duff, general manager at the Grassmarket Hotel, said: “As soon as you walk into the hotel, you get a real sense of the fun, laid back atmosphere we have tried to create. With everything from old school games, comic books and the giant interactive map walls there is something here to keep everyone occupied, whether they’re here on a business trip or a weekend away with friends or family.

“Feedback on the design from the guests has been great so far, with many of them loving the quirky Dandy inspired wall features and some of the younger and foreign guests have been asking lots of questions about the Scottish comic.

“A hotel should be more than just a place to spend the night, it should be somewhere where you want to come back to at the end of the day and somewhere you can relax and enjoy. Hopefully we have managed to do just this and more at the Grassmarket Hotel.”

Grassmarket HotelThe sense of fun is spread throughout the hotel, as guests are immediately welcomed with a warm and inviting reception area designed to reflect a common room, with old school board games, communal book shelf, fresh coffee and a Polaroid camera wall which encourages guests to have their picture taken to be displayed on the mug shot wall. Staff at the hotel also put a ‘what to do guide’ on the wall, so guests can find out what’s going on in the city from the people who know it best.

Interspersed within all the rooms and communal areas, are products from home grown graphic designer Gillian Kyle, who has developed a range of home-ware and products, using branding and labels from historic and traditional Scottish food products, giving them a modern twist on mugs, toothbrush holders, pictures and coasters.

The Grassmarket Hotel is located in the heart of the Grassmarket area of Edinburgh offering 44 fully refurbished rooms, perfect for weekend getaways or corporate stays. Each room has access to complimentary wi-fi services as well as playful aspects such as magnetic walls and giant Sudoku walls. Room prices start from £54 a night and more information can be found at www.thegrassmarkethotel.co.uk
