DRIVE THROUGH FUNERAL (Lewis)

Do you find death an annoying experience? Do you hate dressing up for the funeral, the never-ending priest’s eulogy, and then all that hanging around at the cemetery?
Wouldn’t it be easier if, like a fast-food restaurant’s drive-through service, you could pay your last respects without having to leave the comfort of your own car?
Well look no further, in California they host what they believe to be the world’s first drive through funeral for those who are too busy to attend the funeral. Mourners can drive through, stop in their car for a couple of minutes, pay their respects and then drive away back to their busy lives. This is still something I don’t think I would want for my dead body.

Billy Connolly Dwarfs Role (Aimee)

One of Scotland’s greatest exports has landed himself another film role in Peter Jackson’s much awaited Hobbit films.
The director has announced that the comedic genius that is Billy Connolly will play a dwarf warrior and stated he couldn’t think of a more fitting actor to play Dain Ironfoot, the staunchest and toughest of the dwarves.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released this December, with a second movie, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, to follow 12 months later.
Can’t wait for the Big Yin’s debut.

SEVEN NEW MEMBERS EVERY SECOND (Scott)

Still not joined LinkedIn because you don’t see the point? Think it’ might just be another irrelevant time suck like Friends Reunited or Facebook (both of which you joined out of pure nosiness until you realised how much time you were spending gawking at gibberish?).
Well, think again. The business network grew by 20 million members in November (more than seven new members every second).
Which explains why my LinkedIn training courses are currently in such demand. What I love about those training sessions is seeing faces light up as people gradually realise what a powerful, customisable and useful tool it really is.

RUNWAY TO THE WHITEHOUSE (Gaynor)

In support of Barack Obama’s re-election to the White House the fashion mafia have come out in force to support the first African American President’s campaign. They have created unique bags, t-shirts and accessories to go on sale for his ‘Runway to Win’ fundraising event. More than two dozen designers have contributed their designs to support Barack in his bid to win the re-election. However there has been uproar by republicans due to the financing of this campaign. Many can’t understand how these designers’ goods which are usually so pricey are being sold at a fraction of the price. However the Obama campaign have hit back and assured that no corporate money was improperly used. I think the answer to the republicans question is that designer clothes are just far too expensive in the first place!

HOW A YOUTUBE VIDEO LED TO DAVID LETTERMAN (Laura)

These three brothers are all under the age of 15 but their impressive talent which was exposed after a YouTube video uploaded by their mum went viral led them to an impressive performance on David Letterman’s Tonight Show. Called the sleepy Man Banjo Boys the music the brothers produce is an unexpected explosion of sound from a banjo, guitar and fiddle rivalling some of the world’s greatest bluegrass players. The first video of the trio on YouTube attracted over 2.1millions views and the clip below of their performance on the Tonight Show has had over 500,000 views. With a bit of luck a mixture of the boys raw an unassuming talent and the power of video, will lead them to a recording contract!
