This week at Holyrood PR we’ve been telling the world our client’s stories including a new Scots diabetes camera that could save the eyesight of millions, why a new wind farm could benefit a community in the Scottish Borders and why excitement is building for golf fans across the globe.

First up, we told the story about a new portable eye-scanning camera that could prevent blindness in millions of diabetes sufferers being developed in Scotland. The innovative device is now being built thanks to a £400,000 investment from our client, Lancaster Capital – a new angel investor syndicate based in Glasgow.

Rosyth based start-up company Epipole, are building the handheld device, which is the first portable and affordable camera capable of diagnosing diabetic retin-aw-pathy- a condition responsible for two million cases of preventable blindness worldwide.

The man behind the ingenious device, Dr Craig Robertson, says the money invested by Lancaster Capital will allow his idea to become a commercial reality that could prevent blindness in many less developed parts of the world. We told this story behind this life-changing device which was picked up in national press including The Scotsman, Scotland on Sunday and BBC.

Next up, we’ve been telling the story about Banks Renewables’ proposal for a new wind farm at Birneyknowe in the Scottish Borders. The wind energy company has lodged a plan for up to 15 turbines, each up to 132m high. As part of the proposal, local residents will receive a share of the wind farm revenue, up to £7.5million over 25 years with an added promise that Banks Group will use local companies wherever possible during the construction phase providing a much welcomed boost to the area. News of how this local community will benefit from the project was picked up in the Southern Reporter both in print and online.

And finally, with one week to go we’ve been telling golf fans across the globe about the future stars of the profession who are gearing up to compete in the US Kids Golf European Championships. More than 560 young golfers have signed up for the competition- a fantastic increase of at least 50 from 2013 event. Tournament co-ordinator Alasdair Good, head PGA professional at Gullane Golf Club, is now also encouraging golf fans to take up the chance to view the golfing action in person, especially as there are no admission charges. As excitement mounts news of the tournament has been picked up in top golfing titles Golf East Lothian, Golf Magic, Bunkered Online, Slough Express online and Golf Business News.
