Holyrood PR TV Episode 109

This week we’ve been taking a trip down memory lane for curry lovers in the capital, horsing around for St Patrick’s Day and turning an everyday story into a quirky photocall at Parliament.

First up, we’ve been spicing things up at Holyrood PR as one of our clients is turning back time and serving up Scotland’s first curry. Renowned Indian restaurant Khushi’s is holding a “Back to 1947” event to mark the 80th birthday of co-founder Mrs Khushi- and what better food to serve than the original dishes from more than 60 years ago. Basic dishes including chicken and lamb curry will be served as part of a three-course offering for £19.47.

We decided we needed to go beyond targeting just national and local media and invited some food bloggers to come try the food for themselves and see what makes Khushi’s one of Edinburgh’s favourite Indian restaurants. News of the two-week event has so far been picked up by the 5pm blog, STV Edinburgh and Edinburgh Evening News who also filmed a three minute video of the restaurant and some of the dishes on offer.

Next up, Edinburgh’s famous Three Sisters believes it has backed a dead-cert winner by creating a horse racing track in its grounds as the centrepiece of its St Patrick’s Day celebrations. More than 60 members of staff were drafted in to help the pub develop a mini Cheltenham racecourse, complete with a track, grass and “horses”.  The Three Sisters, famed for its annual St Patrick’s Festival in Edinburgh’s Cowgate, planned the unusual sports event as the main feature of its four day Irish-themed celebrations which also featured a DJ set and exclusive meet and greet with Boyzone’s Shane Lynch and Keith Duffy. We decided to tell the story of this unusual horse play making column inches in St Paddy’s Online, the Edinburgh Reporter and STV Edinburgh.

And finally, the team at Holyrood PR decided to add an interesting twist to a story about Scotland’s biggest independent courier firm, Eagle Couriers, reducing its annual mileage of its 100-strong fleet by a whopping 250,000 miles. Instead of just drafting a press release we decided to track down half a dozen tyres and set up a photocall at parliament with Alison Johnstone, Green MSP for Lothian and Eagle Couriers director Jerry Stewart. We thought this was the best way to turn news of an ISO 14001 certification for Environmental Management into a much more creative and engaging story that would appeal to the widest audience possible. News of this award was picked up in the Herald and the Scotsman business pages.
