Top Legal Firm Adds to Ranks with Experienced Operator

Legal PR team shares story about Gilson Gray's new Finance Director

ONE of Scotland’s leading legal firms has secured a significant coup from regional heavyweights Brodies to appoint a new Finance Director.

Gilson Gray has underlined its ambition to attract top industry talent by swooping to appoint Peter Coghlan, 43, from the rival firm.

Peter has over 16 years’ experience in the Scottish legal industry and will work closely with senior management to mould the firm’s future finances.

Originally from Australia, Peter worked in Sydney for nine years and qualified as a Chartered Accountant before he was 25.

Peter said: “I was blown away after meeting one of the founding partners, Glen Gilson, where he outlined his plans for the firm and how it has progressed so far.

“I was also really attracted to Gilson Gray’s modus operandi which is to do things differently from the norm.

“As a young firm, I’m really excited to be able to mould things and put my stamp on it.

“I’ll be working very closely with the management team and really like the idea of being able to see projects through and helping to develop different aspects of the firm.”

Gilson Gray was set up in 2014 as the largest full service law firm launch in Scottish legal history, opening in Glasgow and Edinburgh simultaneously with a portfolio of talent from leading firms from across the UK.

Its rapid rise to become one of the country’s most respected law firms has been underpinned by taking a fresh approach to business, unburdened by the structure and years of tradition associated with many of the largest legal entities.

This has included measures including, a more casual “dress for the day ahead” dress-code to ensuring all work is partner-led, harnessing the talents of its highly skilled award winning staff.

Glen Gilson, Managing Partner of Gilson Gray, said: “From the very outset we have been committed to cherry-picking talented people to come and join our team and this has led to people like Peter leaving other law firms in order to join us.

“He brings with him a wealth of experience and we’re all excited to utilise his new ideas and thinking to further develop the firm.

“We’ve forged a reputation as a full service firm which provides a personal touch to clients and we’re always keen to speak to the brightest and best talent from across the country.”

Bucking industry trends of cutbacks and mergers with its fresh and dynamic approach, Gilson Gray has tripled in scale since its launch in May 2014.

The firm picked up two awards at the 2017 Law Awards of Scotland adding to a host of other accolades, including six awards at the ACQ5 legal awards – the third year in a row that Gilson Gray has seen success – including Law Firm of the Year, Managing Partner of the Year and Insolvency Lawyer of the Year, all for the second time in three years.
