A RENOWNED housebuilder has donated £1000 to support one of Scotland’s longest-running agricultural shows.

Taking place this Saturday (03 June) at Hilton Farm in Kelty, this year’s West Fife Show is building on recent successful years, and is aiming to connect the farming community and food and drink producers with local towns in the area.

The funding from CALA is helping towards the wider running of the event, which is organised by the Central and West Fife Agricultural Society – and was recently discovered to have been taking place since 1760.

June Geyer, has been on the show committee for more than 30 years – and in her first year as Chairman is hugely grateful for the support.

She, said: “Costs rise every year as the show gets bigger – and we look to offer more to visitors, exhibitors and farmers.

“The show is run entirely by passionate volunteers, so to get generous backing from the likes of CALA is absolutely essential to our success – and means we can offer more exciting exhibits.”

Thanks in part to the funding from CALA, this year’s show is set to include an interactive exhibition from Glasgow Science Centre, as well as a highland dancing tent, cookery demonstrations from top local chefs, a marquee for baby animals and a bar area.

The tug-of-war is set to be a big draw, with 12 teams taking part in preparation for the Royal Highland Show later in the year.

CALA Homes has been a major supporter of the event, donating money towards its running since 2014.

Derek Lawson, Land Director at CALA Homes (East), said: “This is a very special and historic event that is a part of the fabric of the community – which we are delighted to be able to support it.”

The showground is open from 9am and full details of what’s on at the show are available on the dedicated website: www.westfifeshow.com/
