Toilet sign Fed-up staff at Nachos Fiesta have been forced to issue an appeal to female customers after lightfingered ladies loo users helped themselves to pieces of Mexican art.

Staff at the  Mexican bar and restaurant in Fountain Park, Edinburgh, had to repeatedly replace small works of art, which showcase traditional images from Central and  South American culture, because they kept disappearing.

The pictures, which could easily be slipped into a handbag or coat pocket, were sourced from Coaba, the traditional Mexican handcraft store in Stockbridge and are similar to those found in native Mexican restaurants.

In an effort to stop more of these pictures being stolen, the spaces prevNachos Interior 07iously occupied by the artworks have now been replaced with a sign showing a cartoon burglar and the message: “Sorry this space is empty, someone ‘took’ our wonderful picture. Please do not steal them…”

Jagoda Bielak, General Manager at Nachos Fiesta, said: “At first we were a little puzzled as to where the pictures went and it was even quite nice to think that our decorations, were good enough to steal.

“But after replacing the pictures at least half a dozen times, the funny side is starting to wear off, which is why we have come up with our polite but stern sign in order to deter any ladies thinking of stealing the rest of our pictures.

“The pictures themselves do not have large monetary value, but they are a traditional part of Mexican décor  and something which we have put a lot of time and effort into sourcing so we hope that diners can appreciate this and enjoy the pictures, rather than pocketing them.

“Our sign is a bit of fun and if any customers do want a picture for themselves, any of our staff would be happy to tell them where they are sourced from.”

Nachos Fiesta, at Fountain Park, offers up some of Edinburgh’s top Mexican food and drink with specialities which include spicy fajitas, loaded nachos and stuffed burritos, perfect for all the family. Serving food from 11am seven days a week, the licensed bar is open from 10am till late
