A LOCAL landmark is set to begin the next chapter in its rich history as the latest offering from premium homebuilder CALA Homes (East) to launch in East Lothian.

Henderson House, originally the village’s iconic Marine Hotel and subsequently Scottish Fire and Rescue Service College, will be opening its elegant main entrance once again on Saturday 29th September – to homebuyers seeking contemporary living with Victorian style.

Situated in the seaside town of Gullane, Henderson House comprises 21 bespoke refurbished apartments, ranging from one-bedroom apartments to three-bedroom duplex properties, all individually designed.

First built in 1899, the homes within Henderson House will combine period elegance with contemporary living, with many of the original features being retained in the refurbishment, such as the main façade, bay windows, grand central staircase and red natural stone features.

The history of the building has seen it as a seaside hotel for visitors to Gullane, before acting as the headquarters for the Polish army during the Second World War, and more recently, as the main training centre for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

Henderson House will soon be returned to its former glory as a centrepiece of Gullane when it finally launches to homebuyers later this month.

Philip Hogg, Sales and Marketing Director at CALA Homes (East), said: “This is a truly special piece of local history and we’re delighted to be finally launching Henderson House to the public.

“Its significance as a town landmark has been very important for us to incorporate into the refurbishment – we wanted to restore and modernise without losing its charm and character.

“When the development officially launches on Saturday 29th September, the next chapter in Henderson House’s history will begin and we’re thrilled to be a part of it.

“The unique range of individually designed properties offer something for everyone and we’d encourage those interested to visit the launch to explore the plentiful designs and layouts.”

Henderson House was originally built by Henry Walter Hope of Luffness, whose family crest remains to this day on the stonework above the front door.

A member of the Hope family and a representative from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service will be in attendance between 11.30am and 1pm to officially cut the ribbon when the new apartments are unveiled.

Potential buyers will be able to view their new home in its unique historical setting with the launch of a Henderson House show apartment on the same day.

As part of the wider Marine Rise development by CALA Homes (East), there is also a variety of four and five-bedroom family homes, flexible townhouses and incredibly spacious new build apartments available to reserve on site, with three show homes already open to view daily.

The ideal location and unique range of properties available at Marine Rise offers something for everyone, from downsizers and couples, golfing fanatics, growing young families, or those simply seeking a weekend escape on the coast.

Gullane has much to offer its residents, with award-winning beaches on the doorstep, arrange of shops and eateries on the village’s main street, as well as world famous Championship golf courses along Scotland’s ‘Golf Coast Road’.

Those looking to explore further afield can enjoy a range of cafes, shops and restaurants in popular North Berwick which is just a 10-minute drive away. While the capital is in easy reach by car, it is also just a 30-minutes journey by train from the nearby Drem station.
