A pensioner staking claim to be Scotland’s ‘Green Granny’ landed a splash in the Ayrshire Post as her cottage has become the first household in Prestwick to be installed with a revolutionary new heating system.

Ella Simpson’s cottage is set to be used as a pilot study for what is hailed as the ‘next generation of home heating’ which has boosted her green credentials as her home is also installed with installing solar roof panels.

The Direct Savings heating system have been developed using cutting-edge German technology and can go a long way in alleviating ever increasing energy costs, saving an average of 45% on heating costs per year, making it highly efficient and cost effective.

Ella, 68, had become increasingly dissatisfied with her gas central heating system which saw her having to cope with cold rooms and dampness, coupled with expensive heating bills.

She said: “I’d only been in the cottage a year but found the gas central heating system simply wasn’t giving the home the heat it needed as I frequently found damp spots and I’d also installed another radiator in the living room which didn’t prove very effective.

“As soon as the system was installed I noticed a massive difference. It was warm and cosy and I am no longer worried about the electricity costs, before I begrudged paying the high bills particularly when my home was not even warm.

“I’ve got the perfect set up now – lower heating bills and a warmer home. I really can’t recommend this system highly enough. I know one of my friends in Prestwick is already thinking about making the switch, but his granddaughter on Shetland is definitely installing the system.”

The coverage appeared in the Ayrshire Post on behalf of Direct Savings thanks to a PR campaign with Holyrood PR.
