A good samaritan has come to the rescue of tenants at Pentland View, a Bield Retirement Housing development in Livingston, who were left upset after their garden was ransacked by vandals.

Upon hearing the news that CCTV footage and police enquiries had failed to track down the culprits, a local good samaritan and gardening enthusiast, who has declined to be named, stepped in to help – donating an impressive selection of plants so that the process of rebuilding the damaged raised flower bed could begin.

Pentland View manager Sandra McShane said: “The tenants and everybody involved were understandably dismayed upon discovering the vandalism to their garden.

“We have a lot of green-fingered tenants and the communal gardens were a chance for them to express themselves, in line with Bield’s ‘free to be’ ethos.

“The garden was an ongoing project, and a real talking point – something we value highly at Pentland View.”

Sandra added: “A good samaritan  stepped in without any  desire to get recognition, to donate the plants to allow the flowerbed to be re-established. She has also offered to return next spring to help with the ongoing maintenance of the garden.

“The donated plants are really beautiful and have included Black grass, a Berberis Bush, Primroses and Welsh Poppies.

“The tenants have really appreciated the plants and we are all looking forward to seeing the raised flowerbed and the garden overall looking better than ever.”
