Troubled couples offered a vital lifeline by Gilson Gray

Legal PR - Gilson Gray creates online mediation for couples during coronavirus

THE stress and anxiety from crumbling marriages and partnerships can be heightened alarmingly while families are forced to stay indoors.

However, as part of its constant drive to challenge conventional thinking, law firm Gilson Gray is now offering those couples an online service to help them cope through the challenges.

The firm, which has offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and North Berwick, says its online family mediation service can be a vital lifeline for couples whose separation woes have been amplified by the Covid-19 threat.

Denise Laverty, Legal Director at Gilson Gray, said: “This is an extremely uncertain and worrying time for everyone, but even more so for couples in the middle of navigating a separation – with a lockdown making it even harder to bear.

“For some, they may already be living apart and in the middle of negotiating a settlement or court action which Coronavirus has put on hold, but all they want to do is get on with the process. It can be distressing to think an unresolved situation will simply have to be put on hold for an unspecified period of time.

“The good news is that, whatever the situation and wherever you live in Scotland, there are still ways we can help.

“Even if you are in the middle of a court action or were about to raise an action you can still try mediation, it could help you reach a settlement before the courts even open their doors again. Online mediation is a proven and highly effective method to ease the strain and worry for people in these situations.

“It can help couples successfully sort out their separations, divorces, financial matters and arrangements for their children, giving them much needed clarity and reassurance – all from the safety of their own homes.”

While the preferred method of family mediation is for couples to meet with a professional mediator in a neutral location, experts regularly have to work with couples who cannot be in the same room, often because they live in different parts of the world.

Gilson Gray offers all of the technology to ensure that superior levels of mediation it offers to couples is available throughout the current Coronavirus situation, which has turned normal life in what already seems like a distant memory.

Recognised with a ‘Gold Standard’ national ranking by the UK’s prestigious legal Chambers and Partners Guide, the Gilson Gray Family Law team has an exceptional record of resolving child-related and financial disputes by negotiation and mediation.

Denise added: “This is a challenging time for everyone, we’ve built a name for ourselves by thinking differently about the way we work with clients and finding solutions to always help our clients, no matter what’s happening in the world.”

Gilson Gray’s Family Law Team consists of experienced, ‘Comprehensive Accredited Lawyer Mediators’ (CALM) accredited mediators specialising in every aspect of separation and divorce.

Denise Laverty has been recognised by the Chambers UK Guide for her impressive ability in the representation of matters, while two other members of the team, Philippa Cunniff and Sally Nash, also achieved high bank rankings for seamless teamwork and extensive knowledge of family law.

Gilson Gray has grown to around 150 staff across six full-service offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow, North Berwick and Dundee.
