Gilson Gray Bolsters Top Team with Darling Appointment

Gilson Gray Press releases

PR for Gilson GrayExciting legal newcomer Gilson Gray has made its latest high-profile acquisition, by appointing Craig Darling as head of business restructuring and recovery.

Since bursting on to the law scene earlier this year as the biggest full service firm to open in Scotland in more than 100 years, Gilson Gray has been cherry picking talent from across the sector.

Darling represents another significant scalp, joining from HBJ Gateley.  He was previously of Dundas and Wilson and Maclays, where he was responsible for developing the restructuring and insolvency team in the City.

He will be based in Gilson Gray’s Glasgow office, working closely with Derek Hamill’s Corporate team and with the Insolvency team, which is led by Solicitor Advocate Steven Jansch.

The enormous experience offered by the trio means Gilson Gray is now offering a significant corporate insolvency capability to the Scottish market.

Craig said: “To be joining such a dynamic, entrepreneurial and vibrant firm as Gilson Gray is hugely exciting. I am looking forward to being part of the firm’s continued rapid development and success.

“As the economy improves, the options available to stakeholders in the corporate restructuring market increase – meaning that there will be exciting opportunities for our fast-growing business restructuring team to work with and support our clients.”

Glen Gilson, managing partner of the firm, said the most recent appointment was yet another clear statement of intent by Gilson Gray setting out its ambitions to be a key player within Scotland’s legal sector.

He added: “Launching with such a large base of recognised lawyers enables us to establish immediate credibility. The fact that we are continuing to attract further market leading individuals such as Craig Darling shows our weight in the market and our commitment to the corporate recovery, restructuring and insolvency space.

“Craig has an incredible level of experience in his field and having worked with him previously I have no doubt that he is a great fit for Gilson Gray.

“This further underlines our commitment to offering the Scottish market a credible and specialist full service alternative to the traditional legal landscape.”

Craig Darling’s extensive experience includes highly successful spells at HBJ Gateley and Maclays. He has regularly acted for the UK’s largest banking institutions and insolvency practitioners both north and south of the border.

He specialises in corporate restructurings, refinancing and turnaround, administrations, receiverships and fixed charge receiverships.

An experienced corporate lawyer, Craig has also represented a wide breadth of corporates over his two decades practicing in leading UK firms.

Steven Jansch added: “Craig’s appointment provides an exciting opportunity to capitalise upon our existing strengths in the restructuring and recoveries market.

“By adding specific non-contentious corporate restructuring expertise, we feel that our combined capability is as strong as any of the leading teams in the country and we are very excited about the opportunities ahead of us.”
