SHEEPDOG SELLS FOR £10,000 (Rebecca)

Bob was bought for almost £10,000 by an anonymous bidder at auction beating the previous record for the most expensive sheep dog which was £8,400 and was set last October. Bob’s 82 year old trainer has now had three record breaking sales in three years – quite the accomplishment! John Bell who is a retired farmer of Howden, East Yorkshire bought the 15 month old sheepdog for £315 when it was only 13 weeks old and trained it for life in the field. A year later, Mr Bell has sold Bob to a telephone bidder who is believed to live in the United States for £9,240 at Skipton Auction Mart.

BURNING BRIDGE CAUGHT ON CAMERA (Melissa)

Firefighters fought for 15 hours to try to put out the fire on the railroad bridge between San Saba and Lometa in the US state of Texas before admitting defeat and letting it burn. The bridge which spanned the Colorado River then dramatically subsided to the ground in flames. The collapse was caught on camera and uploaded to YouTube by Jamie Smart and the bridge could cost up to $10m (£6.6m) to rebuild.

CHEESE BAN GRAN (Aimee)

The event started in the early 1800’s and sees competitors chasing the colossal 1ft diameter cheese down the 200 yard Cooper’s Hill near Brockworth in Gloucestershire as they race to reach the bottom first. Farmer Diana Smart aged 86 has been making her handmade cheese for the downhill run for a quarter of a century – this year, however Mrs Smart who has provided the large piece of cheese since 1988 has now been warned off doing so after a visit by police. Three officers visited her farm and told her not to donate five 8lb wheels of her cheese in an offer to prevent the so called ‘dangerous’ event. It is the first time in its 200 year history that police have banned a cheese maker providing the cheese which has left the organisers outraged by the polices warnings. It has been found that after looking into the health and safety of the event, 2009 was the last official cheese rolling event but unofficially the event is still held every year without proper medical cover or insurance.

SHIH TZU PUPPY SWALLOWS 4 AND A HALF INCH LOLLY STICK (Rebecca)

Who doesn’t love a happy ending? Crazy what little pups can get into if you’re not keeping an eye of them 24/7. Animal medics are not sure when 15 month old puppy called Lady swallowed the four and a half inch stick but believe it may have killed her if it had been found later. The puppy had been acting strangely before the stick was discovered and had refused to eat. The dog’s owner Sarah Anderson from Openshaw, thought something was wrong so took her to the PDSA PetAid hospital in Old Trafford, Manchester. Ms Anderson was shocked after vets opened up her dog in surgery and found the stick but she is now making a full recovery and as healthy as ever!
