Frame’s The Game To Seal A Piece Of History At The Bothy

G1 Group Press releases

The Bothy- Black & White photosLocals at Edinburgh’s newest bar and restaurant are being given the chance to make a lasting mark on the venue.

The Bothy Restaurant and Drinkery is appealing to its neighbours to help honour the building’s historic past by supplying vintage black and white photographs of the area to line the walls.

It is hoped that more than 140 images can be found to transform the interior of The Bothy Restaurant and Drinkery, part of The Murrayfield Hotel Family.

The theme of the photograph series is ‘Murrayfield Memories’ with people welcome to submit any images they feel fit in to that category. The Bothy Restaurant and Drinkery is especially looking for classic images of the local area, old shop fronts, family portraits and pictures of best-loved Murrayfield landmarks, including The Murrayfield Hotel itself.

Manager Colin Brand said: “As a well known Edinburgh institution, it’s incredibly important to us to celebrate both the old and the new as part of our recent refurbishment.

“Our customers and community are at the very heart of our business; having treasured memories on the wall in the form of old photographs will be a special part of remembering our collective history.”

One picture so far has attracted lots of attention from locals and staff alike, as it features the fondly remembered old Buttercup Poultry Farm.

Owned and run by Andrew Ewing from the 1930s, the dairy farm was famed as a local treasure, as it became a workplace for the local community and as well providing local produce.

Colin added: “Photographs such as the one taken at the Buttercup Poultry Farm are very sentimental to our community and help us all to celebrate our past, as well as our present.

“We’re hoping for a great response to this initiative which will encourage people to share their best-loved old photographs and memories.”

The unusual appeal is in keeping with the venue’s desire to ensure to focus on its links with the local community – only locals were invited to its exclusive launch night while a special “locals card” has also be distributed to surrounding homes and business entitling card holders to 20%.

Pictures can be submitted online through Facebook, Twitter and email or by in person at The Bothy Restaurant and Drinkery.

As well as the food and drink menu inspired by local produce and pubs and inns of old, The Bothy Restaurant and Drinkery has also been heavily influenced by traditional Scottish design.

Created by acclaimed designer Jim Hamilton, who is renowned for his quirky touches such as Scottish hotels Tigerlily in Edinburgh and Blythswood Square Hotel in Glasgow, the interiors offer a cozy, welcoming place with exposed stone walls, leather booths and heavy velvet drapes.
