Press releases

slittle2Edinburgh Castle has been chosen as the highly appropriate location for a seminar discussing the next major battle facing Scotland – the war against cyber crime.

Once the site of countless bloody battles, the world-famous landmark will play host to one of the first cyber security seminars to be led by a leading tech business and backed by Police Scotland and the Scottish Business Resilience Centre (SBRC).

Taking place on Thursday 4th February, the event will be hosted by Provista UK Ltd, a Scottish firm specialising in networking and communications and a Cisco Silver Partner, headquartered in Hamilton, Lanarkshire.

A range of delegates will hear from high-profile speakers, including SBRC Director, Mandy Haeburn-Little and experts from Cisco, as well as a live demonstration from the SBRC Ethical Hacking team.

Provista UK Ltd Director, Stuart Little, who will open the event, said: “This is a great opportunity for some of the leading voices in the industry to work together to discuss the most practical and effective methods to deal with the growing threat of cyber crime.

“The various high profile cases – not least the massive Talk Talk hacking incident – shows that this is certainly a topic that will show no signs of declining in terms of risk or the need to take action.

“With essential services and business operations continuing move to at a frightening pace online, it is imperative that we share information and knowledge to counter the threats of the cyber crime.”

Provista UK, currently employs 29 people and boasts a highly accredited team, with a range of specialties in the areas of Unified Communications, Secure Wireless, IP Security and IP LAN & WAN Networks.

Mandy Haeburn-Little, said: “We’re often reminded in the media of high-profile cyber attacks – but the reality is that businesses of all sizes can find themselves in the crosshairs of a cyber criminal.

“Private information in the hands of the wrong people can do endless damage, even putting businesses out of operation and costing people their livelihoods.

“We’re more than happy to lend our voice to this Cyber Security seminar – it is so important that Scottish businesses such as Provista, who are on the ground and providing technical solutions to businesses, engage in a helpful and cooperative manner to the wider business community.”

Stuart added: “It is a privilege to have the support of institutions such as the SBRC, who have been able to provide a voice for Scottish businesses of all sizes, in what can seem a daunting topic.

“Hopefully this seminar will help some of Edinburgh’s key businesses turn the tables on cyber criminals.”
