City café’s latest venture creates food and drink PR frenzy

THE COURTYARD of Café 1505 on Nicolson Street is normally used as a Fringe Venue as part of the Space @ Surgeons Hall.

Without the usual Edinburgh Fringe Festival on the cards this year, Café 1505 decided to extend its outdoor seating to accommodate up to 100 guests for socially-distant food and drinks.

Named Café 1505 ‘Al Fresco’, the new venture will resurrect the space for the month of August, creating a new outdoor oasis for visitors in the heart of the city centre.

To help spread the news of Café 1505 ‘Al Fresco’ and showcase the beautiful outdoor area, we shared the news with our local, national and food and drink contacts.

The story was a hit on social media, with features on the Scotsman Food and Drink Facebook, Edinburgh Live Facebook, and What’s On Edinburgh.

Our client, Surgeons Quarter, shared with us that the first weekend of the café was a fantastic success, with more than 250 visitors between Friday and Sunday.

The campaign’s highlights included:

  • A listing on What’s On Edinburgh and coverage on social media
  • Prime coverage in top titles Edinburgh Evening News, Edinburgh Live and The Scotsman Food and Drink
  • Specialist coverage on Scotland Food and Drink
  • Social media successes reaching over 434,561 users across Facebook and Twitter
  • 21 pieces of coverage creating 782,271 opportunities to see
  • An increase of 33% in our client’s Facebook followers within one week

Café 1505 is owned and managed by Surgeons Quarter, the commercial arm of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Profits from the café go towards the College’s charitable objectives of improving access to surgery and saving lives around the world.

The café uses seasonal produce and serves what it claims to be the most ethical cuppa in Edinburgh, the fair trade Coffee Grown by Women, which empowers women farmers in Mexico and Peru. You can read the original press release here.
