EAT SMARTIES TO BE A SMARTY (Lauren)

Forget scientific discoveries, literary wonders or creating world peace. According to new research, the guaranteed way to win a Nobel Prize is to simply eat more chocolate.
After reading a paper connecting cocoa consumption with increased brain activity in elderly patients, Columbia University’s Frank Messerli questioned a link between a country’s chocolate customs and their national intellect.
Messerli used Nobel Prize winners to represent each nation’s intelligence level and measured this next to the country’s chocolate intake.
The findings, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, were astonishing.

THE LOST AND FORGOTTEN (Aimee)

The internet is fast paced with thousands of sites being updated and created everyday-I can hardly keep up, it’s like a black hole of constant discovery. In this fast paced internet crazed world, it’s easy to forget the golden oldies, almost like our old mobiles which are shelved for ones which are probably going to have teleportation apps soon.
If you felt your heart flutter at the thought of a bunch of sad, abandoned and unused sites then check out this list of 23 ancient sites that are still live and kicking.

TWITTER WARFARE (Lauren)

Twitter has long been the chosen media platform for celebrity clashes, political rants and sports controversies. However, for the first time, the social networking site has been used as a war tool between two opposing combatants.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and Palestinian Islamist party Hamas have both taken to their keyboards to tweet about their current military actions against one another.
Online warfare began on Wednesday, when the IDF uploaded a video showing the assassination of Hamas’ military leader Ahmed Jabari, alongside a poster stating he had been ‘eliminated’.
The armed wing of Hamas, Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, soon responded with:”Our blessed hands will reach your leaders and soldiers wherever they are (You Opened Hell Gates on Yourselves)”.
As the rocket attacks between the warring parties continue, so does the internet intimidation. However, these posts breach Twitter’s rules, which state: “Violence and Threats: You may not publish or post direct, specific threats of violence against others.”
It is yet unknown if Twitter will interrupt the social media conflict and terminate either or both of the assailant’s accounts.

IN THE LAB GETTIN’ TIPSY (Aoibhínn)

The Drum published an interesting piece on their site yesterday, calling for participants from the creative industries to be their guinea pigs for an exciting new experiment.
The study is one that I am sure will be tremendously beneficial to all human kind:
Would being drunk make you a better creative?
Two teams will go head to head under the watchful eye of coordinator Dave Birss. Cleverly called the Newt/Judge Experiment the teams will work on the same creative brief however, one team will be sober and the others will be pissed as farts (or newts as the case may be).
I’m sure it will make for a very interesting read once the results are published.

THANKSGIVING FEAST (Victoria)

Cooking Christmas dinner may be a laborious task for many people who find that once a year is enough to cook a mammoth roast but if like me, you love an excuse for yummy food, then clear your diaries for Thursday evening!
Although I may be proud Brit, I still appreciate US traditions like Thanksgiving and have always fancied whipping up a celebratory meal.
For some recipe inspirations that take the stress out of the cooking, check out this summary of the key dishes that make up this fun holiday banquet.
